In 2024, May 2nd was marked as Earth Overshoot Day in Germany. This means that from this day onwards, people consume more renewable resources than can be regrown over the course of the year. The Earth’s ecosystem can only produce a certain amount of natural resources within a year. If all countries consumed as many resources as Germany, people worldwide would need three Earths.
